From the 9-12 Million Maniac March

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

PREFACE: As I made a couple jokes this morning on Twitter about Glenn Beck’s 9-12 DC March, I got this tweet:

@diggrbiii @johnennis That’s right. With every comment you expose your bitterness and desperation. I’m giving you advice. Keep quiet today. #tcot

This encouraged a day of live-blogging Glenn Beck’s 9-12 event.

Today, Glenn Beck’s army of xenophobic zombies have taken to the streets of D.C. to protest everything that has happened since the black guy became president. Not the Bush deficits, just the ones Obama would make if he offered health care to citizens. Not all government intervention, the intervention into stopping gays marrying and women from having abortions is fine. They’re supposedly protesting both political parties, but sure seem to support Republican Rep. Joe Wilson for acting like a drunkard in Congress, and sure seem to blame the Democrats for everything…the GOP not so much.

This picture below effectively captures this scene as a convention of disaffected, diasporic hot heads who have grabbed onto every grievance, real or imagined, since Obama took office: A pickup truck decorated with the World Trade Centers being attacked and a big picture of Terri Schiavo. Isn’t she the woman whose final wishes for her health care were intruded upon by activist state and federal government officials trying to grandstand their beliefs, despite many court rulings and husband’s wishes? Is that what you are protesting, or supporting? Oh, does it matter, anymore? Do you really have to keep acting like you have a point besides alleging socialism and other big words you can’t define, but repeat because FOX News taught you?

Terri Schiavo wants government intervention in healthcare?

DC 9/11: The Evildoers Remix

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

DC 9/11: The Evildoers RemixThis is a classic: In 2003 Showtime put out a near-propaganda TV movie called DC 9/11, glorifying Bush’s performance that day. This was clearly made a while back when people still wanted to believe that he was in charge that day. The number of impressive actors who took this painful gig is striking: Penny Johnston from 24? Timothy Bottoms from That’s My Bush? Gerorge “Gay Marriage” Takei from Heroes & Star Trek?? In turn, this mash-up was made to shed more light on the TV movie version of events.

Eight Years Later: Ground Zero Workers Dying

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

Eight Years After 9/11, Ground Zero Volunteer Dying of Lung Disease is One of Many Still Fighting for Justice

It is an added tragedy that WTC disease will kill more people than the actual 9/11 attacks.  This report from Democracy Now shows one of these people, and the slow death he has been dying since September 11th, 2001.

Obama Announces Beer Summit with Joe Wilson

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

You lie! No, YOU lie! Liar!Seeking to quell the furor over Wednesday night’s heckling in a joint session of Congress and return focus on his health bill, President Obama offered a willingness to reconcile with Rep. Joe Wilson in a familiar setting: a beer summit.

Obama suggested he might offer Joe Wilson a tall, cool glass of something called “STFU.” Rep. Wilson assured him, “No need, I come drunk.” On the snack menu are foot long sandwiches specially made to order called “a Foot-Upyoass.” Read More »

Joe Wilson’s Apology (Closed-Captioning for the B.S. Impaired)

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

After heckling the President during a joint session of Congress, Rep. Joe Wilson (S.C.) offers a conciliatory tone, perpetuates an untruth, then asks for money. This closed-captioning service is provided to maintain public decency in media.

Rep. Joe Wilson’s Wikipedia Page

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

It did not take long for Joe Wilson’s outburst last night to provoke reactions all across the Interwebs.  Why didn’t he just throw his shoes at Obama?  My favorite so far is his Wikipedia page, which has already been closed for rampant vandalism:

"He is a douchebag that called the President of the United States a liar and has no respect for the office he holds."

“Wild Girls Gone” in the Hollywood Comedy Film Festival

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

Amy Poehler in WILD GIRLS GONEAfter years of cult status as the Upright Citizens Brigade movie that no one was allowed to see, we are about to sacrifice the exclusivity of the film in favor of people seeing it.  While a deal with iTunes may be coming along, the movie will be screening next month at the Hollywood Comedy Film Festival in Los Angeles, which runs from Oct. 21-2006 at Arclight Cinemas.  Wild Girls Gone stars Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, Ian Roberts, and Matt Besser, and I directed, edited, and produced it.  You can see the trailer for the film here.

The Monkey, The Organ Grinder, & the Swift Boating of Van Jones

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

organ grinder monkey 200x200It’s kind of like the organ grinder and the monkey. The guy with the music box gets the monkey to dance and act out for the people. And when huge corporations, media interests, and high-priced consultants unleash desperate distortions on public policy, they get a robust jig and a squeal from right wing reactionaries, hot heads, bigots, and people who don’t know enough to know they don’t know enough.

The problem is, the Media, and apparently some in the Obama Administration, listen to the monkey. Read More »
