Commander in Beats

I don’t know what’s better — that my president lets Jay-Z hang in the White House Situation Room, or that the old right wing guard is predictably in apoplexy. Here, a rare smile from Hov.

LEAKED: More RNC Fundraising Power Point Slides!

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

Following the release of damaging slides from a recent Republican National Committee presentation in Florida–”Putting the FUN Back in Fundraising,” which encouraged using fear, the threat of Socialism, and “tchochkes” as effective fund raising tools–the RNC has been put on the defensive. Even the brash RNC Chair Michael Steele was contrite on FOX News, who had to dispatch one of their Most Attractive Blond Ladies Available to offer wide shots in a miniskirt to distract from the news of how utterly little the RNC thinks of its supporters, namely you, the viewers.

While the slides obtained by Politico cast an unflattering light on how the RNC apparently thinks of its donors as ego-driven and reactionary, the peculiar premium placed on “tchochkes” might be even more curious (for anyone who is not a grandparent, anyway). Is this the GOP secret to cultivating their base–stocking them up for their next yard sale?

Here are additional Power Point slides that have surfaced providing further insight into how the Republican National Committee thinks. Read More »

“Wild Girls Gone” Becomes, Like, a Thing

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

Today on FunnyorDie.com, I came across a web ad for my own movie, linking to a website that totally exists and actually portends the imminent release of Wild Girls Gone, for sale in a publicly-accessible-type way.

This would make me think that someone else might think that this movie is actually, like, a thing.  And yet, like — it totally is, though, when you think about it, really.  Woah.

Nice to come across this blog from TV Blogster who has apparently been eagerly anticipating our movie.  I hope our tour-de-force ‘Spring Break Movie Where Spring Break Is Actually Outlawed’ marks the pinnacle of the genre.

Get Well, Guru

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

Guru, the gruff but smooth emcee of the seminal Hip Hop group Gang Starr and his subsequent Jazzmatazz albums, has suffered a heart attack, is in a coma, and is undergoing surgery today.  I’m uncertain which is scarier, that Guru is so laid-up, or that he is only 43 for frack’s sack, 6 years older than me.  It’s not like he’s Big Pun, nearing 700 lbs., whom you might expect to go out like John Candy.

Whereas the 90’s were a dangerous time for emcees avoiding manufactured beefs with bullets, this century seems to be taking out our Hip Hop greats through lackluster health care — Jay Dilla, Slum Village, Roc Raida, and no doubt others.

Here is one of my favorite Gang Starr songs, “Just to Get a Rep,” from 1991’s Step In The Arena.
