DC 9/11: The Evildoers Remix

Posted by John Wellington Ennis

DC 9/11: The Evildoers RemixThis is a classic: In 2003 Showtime put out a near-propaganda TV movie called DC 9/11, glorifying Bush’s performance that day. This was clearly made a while back when people still wanted to believe that he was in charge that day. The number of impressive actors who took this painful gig is striking: Penny Johnston from 24? Timothy Bottoms from That’s My Bush? Gerorge “Gay Marriage” Takei from Heroes & Star Trek?? In turn, this mash-up was made to shed more light on the TV movie version of events.

This film is replete with video vandalism, both inter-cutting real footage from the day of September 11th, 2001, as well as contributing suggestive images, like interracial porn during some of the hushed scenes between W. and Condi. I stumbled upon an art gallery screening of D.C. 9/11: The Evildoers Remix during the incredible week of theater and riots that was New York during the 2004 Republican National Convention, which I was filming for a documentary. I have since sought to share this classic with others each 9/11 to remind ourselves how a national tragedy was being rewritten into conservative fantasies, and because it makes me laugh.
